Kansas City Power & Light District to Create Vibrant Neighborhood in Downtown Kansas City
The $800 million Power & Light District is one of the largest developments in the United States, encompassing nine square blocks in downtown Kansas City. The District is bounded on the east to Grand Boulevard, the south by Truman Road, west by Baltimore Street and to the north by 12th Street.
The District will link together the renovated Bartle Hall Convention Center, the new Sprint Center, offices, hotels, entertainment, cultural destinations and residential developments. Developed in partnership with the City of Kansas City and the State of Missouri, the $850 million mixed-use District will anchor $2 billion of complimentary development efforts in downtown Kansas City.
The combination of entertainment, retail, nightlife and residential with imaginative and innovative design will create a unique and vibrant neighborhood. The retail and entertainment portion of the Kansas City Power & Light District will feature the country's premier concepts such as Gordon Biersch Brewery, McFadden's Sports Saloon, Tengo Sed Cantina, Mosaic Lounge, Famous Dave's Barbecue, Jos. A. Bank, Bristol Seafood Grill, ChinaBAR, Vinino, Cosentino's Downtown Gourmet Market, AMC's flagship arts movie theater in the revitalized Empire Theater, and a 3,000 capacity live music venue in the Midland Theater.
Additional retailers that will service the burgeoning residential population in downtown Kansas City include: Latteland, GNC, The Fudgery, Polished, and Plaza Ford Ideal.
The Kansas City Power & Light District will feature vibrant lighting and landscaping, outdoor seating for restaurants, and a permanent performance stage to provide live entertainment.
The Power & Light District, born of a public-private partnership between the City of Kansas City, the State of Missouri and The Cordish Company, will serve as an important catalyst for the continued revitalization of downtown Kansas City.
Upon completion, the Power & Light District will feature approximately 450,000 square feet of retail/entertainment, 1,200 residential units, 1.2 million square feet of office including the world wide headquarters of H&R Block and 400 hotel rooms including the recently opened Hilton President Hotel.
The Power & Light District will feature an eclectic mix of restaurants, entertainment venues, shops, boutiques, live music, theaters and additional unique amenities. Anchor tenants include such as locally owned Cosentino's Gourmet Market, AMC's flagship redevelopment of Empire Theatre into the Mainstreet Theatre, the revitalization of the Midland Theater into a 3,000 capacity live music and entertainment venue as well as the Bristol Seafood Grill.
In addition, the Power & Light District will include national anchor tenants such as Lucky Strike from Hollywood, CA which will be located in the Kansas City Live! block of the Power & Light District.
The opening of the Power & Light District is targeted for Spring 2008.
