Restaurant: The PeachtreeLocation: 6800 Eastwood Trafficway, KCMO
Cuisine: Soul FoodPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: * averageNotes: A little cramped and the floor was wet.
Food: *** excellentNotes: Yummmy!! Down home cooking!
Service: * averageNotes: I had take out so I didn't get much "service"
Favorites: Cornbread dressing, Yams, Rolls.
Comments: This was some really good down home cooking. This is a buffet restaurant so I would suggest "dining in" instead of getting take out. If you get take out, you don't get as much food (also, take out is a little more expensive for less food). The food itself is EXCELLENT. If you want some down-home southern cooking, try this place. You might see me there!

Restaurant: Peanut, TheLocation: About 51st & Main
Cuisine: AmericanPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: ** very goodNotes: Sports-Bar Style
Food: *** excellentNotes: Fantastic for this style place
Service: ** very goodNotes: Takes some getting used to
Favorites: BLT, Double BLT, Triple BLT
Comments: The peanut is a real dive down on Main St just south of the Plaza. It looks bad inside, but it's clean. The service takes some getting used to, be prepared for rude service; it's part of the experience, and they do it on purpose. The food is fantastic: greasy, fattening, wonderful. The BLT is a must here, and it's a staple Peanut menu item.

Restaurant: Perkins Family RestaurantLocation: Any of Them
Cuisine: AmericanPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: * averageNotes: Bring Along A Fly Swatter
Food: * averageNotes: Have eaten worse
Service: poorNotes: Service is not bad if you ever find your server
Favorites: Hot Fudge Sundae
Comments: Perkins might not be such a bad place to dine if they could find employees who actually cared if they showed up for work. Watch out for the servers at the I35/75th Street location in Merriam, Kansas; they enjoy making their customers listen to all their personal problems and complaints about working at Perkins. The food is not too bad; although most of it is bland and tastes like a nuked frozen dinner. Take a fly swatter with you, especially if you sit near the window.

Comments: What a waste. I took my father from Arkansas there, met my brother from North KC there for the first time. Could not taste the chicken because of the heavy heavy amount of pepper. I've been told that this is a tactic used to cover up the taste of old chicken. Won't be back, ever!!

Comments: I just love the sandwiches. I always order the same thing so I can't recommend much. Old indep. location had waffle fries I don't think any of the others do--miss those waffle fries. Love the black olives on the sandwich. Downside--not enough locations in the metro area.

Comments: Sidney's Diner reopened May 9, 2002 under new management!!! They offer a clean, friendly atmosphere and delicious, unique meals. Open 24 hours from Wed 6pm to Tues 6am. Smashers (Sidney's signature two-patty burger), sandwiches, and hot dogs are served with fries, tots or potato salad. Prices range from biscuits and gravy for 1.99 to veggie lasagna for 7.95. There is also a 12 egg scramble for 12.00 if you are really hungry or if you are in a group. Great appetizers from hot wings to roasted red pepper hummus. Restaurant: SkiesLocation: Hyatt Regency at Crown Center
Cuisine: AmericanPrice: $$$$ expensive
Ambience: * averageNotes: has gone *sharply* downhill since our last visit
Food: **** superbNotes: *everything* was wonderful, esp. spinach/artichoke dip
Service: **** superbNotes: we had a brand-new waitress who was still perfect
Favorites: see above, but everything was truly great
Comments: Service and food were absolutely outstanding. However, the ambience has dropped SHARPLY since my last visit. It used to be a wonderfully dim, romantic atmosphere, which was also great to showcase the view of the city at night. No more. Harsh, bright--and I mean BRIGHT--overhead lights spoil the view (though it's still nice, it is no longer amazing) and really put a damper on the whole atmosphere. They have also moved the tables away from the windows, which ruins the "floating above the city" feeling that you used to get. I don't know who thought up these changes, but they are truly bad. This used to be my favorite "date restaurant" in the world. Though I might return with friends or family just for the wonderful service and food, I doubt I would return for a special-occasion romantic date again unless they do a serious overhaul on their atmosphere and get it back to where it used to be.

Restaurant: Sneeky Pete'sLocation: Overland Park
Cuisine: AmericanPrice: $$ inexpensive
Ambience: * averageNotes: Front room is supposed to be smoke free, but it wasn't.
Food: *** excellentNotes: Everything tastes fresh and homemade.
Service: poorNotes: Servers are inattentive and clueless. Sit at the bar instead
Favorites: Chicken Quesadilla, Tenderloin
Comments: We have dined at Sneeky Pete's a few times. The food is always terrific and the menu is extensive. There is even a kid's menu. There are several tvs throughout, including a big screen. However, the table service is horrendous. The servers are not very knowledgable about products they serve, and visit the table infrequently. It's usually a long time before you are greeted, and you have to ask for everything. We now always sit at the bar. The bartender is always friendly, attentive and suggests items for us to try. Always seems to anticipate our needs. If the table service improves, this could be a great dining experience.

Service: ** very goodNotes:
Favorites:
Comments: They offer all you can eat salad, soup, and bread for $4.99 (drink not included). Truly a bargain if that is what you want and like. Don't go looking for any kind of meat or sides. They serve what they say in their name-SOUP and SALAD. But they have lots of different salads, soups and breads to choose from so if you go away hungry it is your own fault. A good, inexpensive place to fill up on healthy type food. They offer softserve icecream as part of the buffet also. Servers appear a little overworked but they do try to keep drinks filled etc.

Service: *** excellentNotes: very attentive w/o hovering
Favorites: Trout w/morel mushrooms; rack of lamb; crab cakes; fois gras
Comments: Great place for a date dinner or just with friends. The food was outstanding, service good but not intrusive, wine list extensive and very reasonable compared to most. It's impossible to find small, cozy dining rooms, particularly on the Plaza where everything is a chain.

Service: poorNotes: abusive & arrogant waitress
Favorites: Seabass
Comments: We went here for the first time as we heard the food was great which it was. We brought friends to help us celebrate a birthday so we expected to have a wonderful evening. Between us we spent over $180 for the foursome and when we asked our waitress to help us split the bill she very arrogantly grabbed it away from us and left. She then came back and threw it on the table and stomped off. When we looked at the bill she had not figured it for us at all. Why do restaurants feel that they can get away with treating their customers with such disrespect when in this case it would have taken them two minutes to satisfy us and we would have left with a good experience. Because of this we won't be back! We don't care how good the food is if the service stinks it isn't worth the aggravation

Comments: Our first mistake was to go to this place for lunch...on a workday! Obviously the wait staff thinks we all have a 2 hour lunch break. Hard to believe it would take them 45 minutes to cook a hamburger! We all ended up with a nervous stomarch ache trying to quickly eat and get back to work on time. When we complained to coworkers later, we discovered that our experience was the norm for this place. Never again!!!!

Comments: If you like to dine while watching re-runs of the Loveboat and listening to old 70's music this is the place for you. The food is average nothing special. The prices on the menu were not to bad but stay away from the drinks they are outrageously priced. 3 adults and 4 kids our bill was over 90 dollars and we only had 2 mixed drinks. Favorites: Pan-Fried Chicken
Comments: This was our 1st trip to the Tool Shed & we'll be back. This was not a high-class joint, with servers in overalls and farm signs on the walls, but it was fun and comfortable. Side dishes are serverd family style, and the server kept them coming as long as we wanted. Note: ask to try the applesauce--the coleslaw was good, but the applesauce was GREAT!

Service: poorNotes: Employees Could Care Less!
Favorites: Glass of water
Comments: Save your money!!! What's wrong with Tippins? 1) The staff is so busy confering with each other about their party-plans that customers are the last things on their mind - - intil it's time for them to receive a tip, then their all phoney-smiles. I have a "tip" for the servers: grow up and take your job seriously! 2) The food: it's flavorless (worst than frozen tv dinners), and so overloaded with chemicals it's past the point of ridiculous. 3) The tables are not properly cleaned. Gee - - why would anyone want to eat at Tippins? Eating a bowl of cereal at home for dinner is a more pleasant experience.

Service: ** very goodNotes: Waitress said she was new, but friendly and competent
Favorites: "Big John" breakfast
Comments: This place is the ULTIMATE greasy spoon dive-makes Hayes Hamburgers in the Northland look like the Savoy Grill! But don't let the kooky appearance fool you, those girls in there know what they're doing. Service is prompt and friendly; the food is delicious, and the cook must've handed our orders to the waitress straight off the grill. All the diner standards are there, including some homemade desserts that looked outstanding. A word of warning-this place is hard to find. It took us half an hour of wandering around the West Bottoms, and my husband used to work down there! But it was well worth the effort!

Favorites: cheeseburger, patty melt
Comments: This is the epitome of the hole-in-the-wall diner. But, this is where real cheeseburger lovers go to die. They have the biggest cheeseburger, fries, and a drink for a few cents over $6.00-it is the way cheeseburgers began. This little builidng is not the cleanest, but has a menu that is almost as long as the route to get to it. Seating is scarce and tight, there is a counter bar to sit at also. My advice is order it to go-and don't try to eat and drive-it really does take two hands to hold this whopper! Patty melt is also as good. Just read that big menu and make a choice-chances are you won't be disappointed!

Favorites: Hot Beef, Boiled Shrimp (saturdays only)
Comments: Very good food with the best hot beef sandwich I and my wife have ever tasted. On Saturdays they offer all-you-can-eat boiled shrimp for $11.99 which includes baked potato, cole slaw and a roll. It also was very good and they brought my 2nd helping of shrimp with outbeing asked. Somewhat smokey inside and just a little slow to get your food but worth the wait for the good food and attentive service. Not a fancy place but has a interesting array of 50's/60's style memoribilia . Open 24 hrs/day, 7 days/week per waitress. Well worth a try.

Food: * averageNotes: pubic hair in salad spoiled it for me!
Service: poorNotes: _
Favorites: _
Comments: Accommodating an extra guest that arrived for our party of 8 was an inconvenience for the staff. One meal was way undercooked and they apologized, offering the explanation of an understaffed kitchen that evening. However, they didn't fix the problem. The waitress also apologized for what appeared to be a pubic hair in a salad, but something like that should bring a manager to the table. The staff was very nice and especially accommodating at the end with a gratis tray of desserts and small bottle of wine. The presented bill included, of course, 18% gratuity because of our group size. However, it was not itemized. Did they charge for the public hair salad? Who knows, but we won't be back.
