Comments: | 2nd trip - go for the steaks -which are excellent- not the service or the ambience-I don't know how anyone could get through those 24 and 30 oz entrees after a salad and large twice-baked potato. The prices seem high given the older setting, plastic salad plates, formica table-tops, etc. This food deserves better surroundings, although there is something unique about the whole experience. |

overpriced is an understatement. Give it a shot if you have a thick

Comments: | I remember going to Jess and Jim's as a child back in the
1950-60's. We return every time we are visiting Kansas City and I am
amazed at how the restaurant remains the same - excellent food, efficient
service, trains passing by in the back yard! It is remarkable that they
have not succumed to the norm of today - cookie-cutter restaurants with
perky, annoying help. You haven't had a Kansas City steak until you have
eaten at Jess and Jim's! |

Comments: | In the late 60 and 70s I used to eat at Jess and Jims it was
very good. But i'm not complaining but in 1978 they put in RCs restaurant
next to Jess and Jims and in 1978 Jess and Jims lost their reputation
because of that. But I'm glad Jess and Jims in still in operation and it
is very good. |

Comments: | Ok, the building is old, this restaurant has been around for decades. People that say they are overpriced must not be people that frequent steakhouses. The meat they serve is very high quality. If you order your steak well-done then you obviously dont know much about steaks. I am not wealthy but I do know food and know great food when I eat it. If you want a overpriced fancy restaurant go for it. For great food and great service go to Jess & Jim's, true the atmosphere isnt the greatest but everything else they offer more than makes up for it. After reading some of the reviews you would think some of these people were James Beard wanna be's (no disrespect intended to James Beard), im sure James could spell and articulate himself where some of these people can not. Eat at Jess & Jim's if you want great food and great service without all the extra frills that you end up paying for at other places.

Comments: | Expensive, but a good value considering you'd have to go to Montana to get as good a piece of meat. This place was built around their food, not their atmosphere or bouncy young waitresses. It's been in business longer than a lot of their customers have been alive, and as long as the food quality is their number one concern, they'll have a faithfull following of those to whom that is most important. |

Comments: | My family moved to Martin City in 1952 when I was in Kindergarten and attended the OLD Martin City school on Holmes next to the railroad tracks south of Blue Ridge. We lived just around the corner from Jess and Jims on Locust. We've been eating at Jess and Jim's since before the 1957 tornado destoyed their first place where Jack's Stack is now. Did you know thier present building used to be square at the back and was chopped off by the tornado? Anyway, my last visit was several years ago, but I've always enjoyed my dinners there. Like others say above, it's an old building, but the food's great and you'll enjoy yourself! |

We drove about an hour to get there, it was not worth the gasoline or our time for this pitiful meal! The management offered free steaks on a return visit. We haven't decided if it would be worth the drive to try it again. |

Comments: | Don't waste your time or your money. Jess & Jim's is highly overrated. I don't look for ambience in a restaurant and no worries here because Jess & Jim's has none. Very old-fashioned with no interior design updates since 1964. The real problem is the incredibly overpriced food. Honestly, I've had a much better steak at a chain restaurant like Outback Steakhouse. I was very disappointed in the quality of the food and the service. At one point I thought our server had clocked out and gone home. If you're going to spend this kind of money do it elsewhere. |
